Thornton Rd.
APN 001 190-66, SR0084415
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed the Soil Suitability/Nitrate
Loading (SSNL) Study, dated May 19, 2021 for the above noted location, and has the following comments for
your consideration.
The SSNL was prepared to determine the suitability of the above noted parcel for onsite wastewater treatment
system (OWTS) usage and the potential long-term impact of nitrate to groundwater from the proposed startup
research facility (as stated in the Service Request SR0084415). The SSNL Section 9.3 referenced 3 existing
residential homes totaling 6 bedrooms, and Section 9.4 referenced future research facility with a maximum of
6 full-time employees. Both sources were taken into account in Section 9.4 and 9.6 the mass-balance
calculation.
The applicant stated intention to remove the residential homes as a part of this project during a telephone
conversation on October 29, 2021. Noland use permit for the"Research and Laboratory Business" is required
according to Community Development Department.
Based on the information provided, the EHD can make the following findings:
1. A commercial septic system typical loads total nitrogen from wastewater of 85 mg/L-N. However, the
SSNL uses 34.425 mg/L-N to determine potential nitrate loading from proposed improvements.
Submit an addendum to EHD addressing above-mentioned concerns and provide any supportive documents.
The EHD will respond after the addendum has been submitted accordingly.
If you have any questions please contact Jeffrey Wong, Lead Senior Registered Environmental Health
Specialist, at jwong@sjgov.org or (209) 468-0035.
/*Y- UV
{so - `-
Steven Shih, REHS
Program Coordinator
c: Brian Millman W.
