FOR REFERENCE ONLY BUSINESS CONFIDENTIAL <br /> Hazardous Materials Spill Response HAZ-006 <br /> Authorized Personnel <br /> Authorized Personnel <br /> Only authorized personnel with the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) who have <br /> completed the hazardous materials training programs in the Learning Center or equivalent are <br /> permitted to handle or remove damaged hazardous materials. <br /> Use this procedure in conjunction with the OP-894, the Damaged Hazardous Materials, OP-890, <br /> the leaking material's Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and the Emergency Response Guidebook— Small, <br /> ERG-S. <br /> Refer to Driver/Non-Driver Files (Employees), SAF-045, for a list of required courses. FedEx <br /> Ground Hazardous Material Spill Procedures, HAZ123, and Hazmat Reporting HAZ124, are <br /> specific to spill response. <br /> Personal Pr• • <br /> All facilities are required to maintain an adequate supply of PPE, supplies, and Hazmat forms. The <br /> inventory must be checked monthly to ensure that an adequate supply of materials is maintained <br /> on-site, and that the materials are in good condition. Any PPE or supplies showing signs of <br /> deterioration or wear must be discarded and properly disposed. <br /> Refer to Hazardous Materials Supplies, HAZ-007, for an inventory list of all required equipment and <br /> supplies. <br /> Note: Do not use respirators for hazardous material cleanup in FedEx Ground facilities. Call <br /> a vendor if the SDS indicates a respirator must be used in a leak situation. <br /> Damaged, Leaking Hazmat Packages <br /> If a damaged, leaking Hazmat package (including Limited Quantity) is discovered in any <br /> station/hub: <br /> 1. Stop operations. <br /> 2. Warn others in the area of the hazard. <br /> 3. Contact a manager immediately. <br /> Refer to the OP-894 for an overview of the response process. <br /> The manager has trained employees determine if the damaged, leaking package contains a <br /> Hazmat by observing any markings or labels (e.g., hazard communication GHS pictograms, <br /> limited quantity mark, lithium battery mark, DOT diamond label, Hazardous Materials Label- <br /> Large, OP-900LG, Hazardous Materials Laser Label, OP-900LL) on the package. <br /> At no time should an employee, trained or untrained, deliberately expose any part of his or her <br /> body to unknown leaking materials in order to identify the nature of the leaking substance. <br /> Last Update: 01 December 2020 Page 3 of 13 <br />
