compost will bring the water content of the compost to proper levels and will <br />eliminate the potential for pathogen regrowth in the active compost. <br />There are th ree agr icu lturefour production water wells and one domest ic we ll at the <br />site. One well, located near the main entrance facility was drilled to a depth of <br />approximately 135 feet and groundwater occurs at a depth of approximately 70 feet. <br />The well was likely installed before the opening of the landfill, having been previously <br />used for agricultural purposes. It is pumped at a rate of approximately 1,500 gallons <br />per minute (gpm) at a maximum frequency of approximately 27 times in a typical <br />working day. Another well is located south of the South Fork of South Littlejohn's <br />Creek in the southeast corner of the RRF and Compost Facility area, and has a <br />capacity of 500 gpm. The third well is located along the northern boundary of the <br />former Austin Road Landfill. This well was installed in 1972 and has a production of <br />approximately 60 gpm. The fact that groundwater flow near the existing Forward <br />Landfill is not modified by pumping from this well suggests that it is screened in a <br />confined unit below the uppermost groundwater units that are monitored at the site. <br />One domest ic well ,The fourth production well is located along the eastern boundary <br />of the site, just south of the entrance to the Compost Facility/RRF. The locations of <br />the wells located in the Compost Facility/RRF area is shown on Figure 1. Since water <br />will only be added to the compost to maintain adequate internal moisture, significant <br />leachate generation is not antiCipated. <br />There is no on-site wash water generated. Therefore, no wastewater is generated; <br />however, should some be generated it will be collected and discharged to the Class II <br />surface impoundment utilized as a leachate pond. <br />3.8 MATERIAL PROCESSING, HANDLING, AND STORAGE PRACTICES <br />3.8.1 Processing <br />3.8.1.1 Feedstock <br />The Compost Facility will operate between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. <br />Monday through Saturday and is closed on Sundays and on Christmas Day and New <br />Years Day. During the week, the RRF accepts materials up until 4:00 p.m. in order to <br />process and/or cleanup prior to 6:00 p.m. Odors are controlled by processing and <br />removing the material as soon as possible after being brought into the RRF. Odors <br />are not anticipated from the materials since it will be stored for no more than 48 <br />hours. <br />3.8.1.2 Processed Material <br />Incoming material undergoes preprocessing to remove any visible contaminants. <br />Loads are visually inspected at the RRF and will be manually sorted in the processing <br />area. A magnetic separator is utilized to extract nails and other ferrous contaminants <br />from the green waste material after it has been shredded. Since incoming biosolids <br />are not anticipated t o have heavy metal concentrat ions above regu latory limits, ot her <br />preprocessing pro cedu res will not be necessary. <br />The compost process time is projected to be between approximately 4 to 12 weeks , <br />depending on the compost product quality.
