The Winterization activities were completed before the
Winter, in August 1992.
The main access road is paved with asphalt concrete. It has
been built to a width of 21 feet, and is wide enough to accomadate
two-way truck traffic.
The trench and fill landfilling method will be used throughout
the Winter. Waste is deposited, spread, and compacted in an
excavated trench. The trench is expanded each day to provide new
dumping space.
The Winter dumping area is located east of Station 3000 east
and Station 3000 north. A split dumping pad has been prepared in
two sections which will be alternatively used depending on wind
firection. Pad 11 is 120 feet to 250 feet width and 30 feet deep.
Pad 12 will be used on extremely windy days and is located below
Pad 11 and is 200 feet wide and 600 feet long and 30 feet deep.
See attached drawing.
Both pads have been built with a mixture of sand, cement, and
broken tiles, which when and moistened compacted, becomes an
asphalt like surface.
Additional cover materials will be excavated from a module to
the south of the working face and access road. And, have been
built for all weather access.
N
