Chemical feeders and associated components shall be constructed and installed <br /> to prevent uncontrolled discharge or siphoning of chemicals and fumes directly into <br /> the pool, its recirculation system, the pool area or ancillary facilities. <br /> 5. Gates and doors shall be equipped with self-closing and self-latching devices to <br /> keep them securely closed. Gates and doors shall open outwardly away from <br /> the pool except where otherwise prohibited by law. Hand activated door or gate <br /> opening hardware shall be located at a height no lower than 42 inches but no <br /> higher than 44 inches above the deck or walkway. The pool enclosure shall have <br /> a least one means of egress without a key for emergency purposes. Gates shall <br /> meet 31198.2 of California Building Code, Title 24. <br /> 6. Fencing shall be a minimum of 5 feet high. Openings, holes or gaps in the <br /> enclosure, doors and/or gates shall not allow the passage of a 4-inch diameter <br /> sphere. The enclosure shall be constructed over a hard and permanent material <br /> equivalent to concrete: and shall be designed and constructed so that it cannot be <br /> readily climbed by small children. Horizontal and diagonal member designs which <br /> might serve as a ladder for small children are prohibited. Horizontal members' shall <br /> be spaced at least 48 inches apart. No planter or other structures that can be <br /> climbed shall be permitted within 5 feet of the outside of the pool enclosure or <br /> within a 5 foot arc. <br /> 7. A flowmeter must be installed on a horizontal straight run of pipe with a minimum <br /> of 10 pipe diameters before and 4 pipe diameters after the flowmeter. It should be <br /> positioned after the filter and before the heater. I may be installed after the heater, <br /> if a great enough distance can be maintained so that heated water will not damage <br /> the flowmeter. <br /> 8. 3111 B.3 Stairs. Each step of a stair shall have a tread in accordance with Figure <br /> 31 B-7. Risers shall conform to Figure 31 B-7. At least one hand rail shall be <br /> provided extending from the deck to not less than a point above the top of the <br /> lowest step installed in accordance with Figure 31 B-7. <br /> 9. 3111 B.4 Ladder and Recessed Step Dimensions. Ladder treads and recessed <br /> steps shall have a minimum tread of 5 inches (127 mm) and a width of 14 inches <br /> (356 mm) and shall be designed to be readily cleaned. Step risers shall be <br /> uniform and shall not exceed 12 inches (305 mm) in height. The first riser shall be <br /> measured from the deck. <br /> 10.3112B.3 The overhang for either bull-nosed coping or cantilevered decking shall <br /> not exceed 2 inches (51 mm) or be less than 1 inch (25 mm) and shall not <br /> exceed 2 'Y2 inches (64 mm) in thickness. <br /> 11.31166.3.1 Floors. Floors shall have a hard, nonabsorbent surface, such as <br /> Portland cement concrete, ceramic tile or other approved material, which extends <br /> upwards onto the wall at least 5 inches (127 mm) with a coved base.
