Foothill Landfill Page 1 of 2
Garrett T. Backus [EH]
From: Michael Carroll [mcarroll@sjgov.org]
Sent: Wednesday, April 12, 2006 8:01 AM
To: Garrett T. Backus [EH]
Cc: James Moore; Dan Johnson
Subject: RE: Foothill Landfill
Hi Garrett,
We will be handling the LFG condensate along with the leachate, which is one good thing in our WDRs. Part of
the LFG header will drain to a sump, which will be pumped either to the condensate tank or into the LCRS
system. You can probably see the connections on the drawings GC -2, -7, and -8. Note that the condensate will
pDly go where the leachate can go — over certified Title 27/RCRA liner. At Foothill, for now, this is Module 1 only.
FYI, I try to get Jesse to return the leachate (with or without condensate) to the refuse, rather than spraying it on
the surface over Module 1. Spraying isn't prohibited, but we should try to conserve as much moisture within our
relatively dry refuse as possible, to encourage degradation. Note that we don't add any water, we just return the
leachate that reaches the sump to higher, dryer refuse over the liner.
Hope that answers your question. Feel free to call with any more.
Regards,
Mike
W. Michael Carroll, PE
Senior Civil Engineer, Solid Waste Division
1810 E. How will the gas system
condensate be handled? Will the condensate collect in the sump, be pumped out and sprayed on the
landfill?
Thx,
Garrett Backus
Registered Environmental Health Specialist
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Dept.
gbackus@sjcehd.com
voice: (209) 468-2986
4/12/2006
