AOL <br /> shall be 20 feet. The bottom section of the screen shall be sealed <br /> watertight by means of a flush threaded end cap of the same material as <br /> the well screen and shall be within 6 inches of the open portion of the <br /> screen. <br /> 2.04 FILTER PACK <br /> A. Filter pack shall consist of#3 Monterey sand. Organic matter, soft, <br /> friable, thin, or elongated particles are not permissible. Final approval of <br /> the filter pack will be determined by the supervising geologist or civil <br /> engineer based on the characteristics of the formation encountered during <br /> drilling. The uniformity coefficient of the filter pack material shall not <br /> exceed 2.5. <br /> 2.05 BENTONITE SEAL <br /> A. The bentonite seal shall consist of hydrated granular, or pelletized, sodium <br /> montmorillonite furnished in sacks or buckets from a commercial source <br /> and shall be free of impurities which adversely impact the water quality. <br /> If the bentonite seal is located above any borehole fluid levels, a layer of <br /> fine sand shall be placed at the top of the bentonite seal,to provide an <br /> additional barrier to any downward migration of grout. <br /> 2.06 BENTONITE GROUT <br /> A. Bentonite grout shall be a mixture of a maximum of 7 gallons of water per <br /> 94 Ib bag of Portland cement,which conforms to ASTM C 150,Type I. <br /> Not more than 5 percent by weight of bentonite powder shall be added to <br /> reduce shrinkage and to hold the cement in suspension prior to the grout <br /> set. <br /> 2.07 PROTECTIVE HOUSING <br /> A. Monitoring wells shall have a steel lockable protective housing set over <br /> the well casing. The protective housing shall be set in the surface seal. <br /> Any well that is to be temporarily removed from service or left incomplete <br /> due to delay in construction shall be capped with a watertight cap and <br /> equipped with a vandal resistant cover. <br /> 2.08 COW BARRIER <br /> A.
