n
1.1 PURPOSE
The purpose of this work plan is to present the procedures that will be followed to
install triple probe soil gas monitoring well at Foothill Sanitary landfill (FHSL).
1.2 SITE DESCRIPTION
Foothill Sanitary Landfill is located at 6484 N Waverly Rd, about four miles east
of Linden, north east of the intersection of Waverly Rd and Flood Rd. (Figure 1)..
FHSL is not a closed landfill.
1.3 REASON FOR INSTALLING SOIL GAS MONITORING WELL
The new soil gas monitoring wells will be installed to replace two existing
monitoring wells, SG -8 and SG -4. Well SG -8, is in the area of the next module to
be constructed and is too shallow. Solid waste Division would like to install a
replacement well before destroying well SG -8 during the construction of the next
module.
The other existing well, SG -4, is installed in the vicinity of a sand lens. From
consecutive monitoring periods, off-site migration monitoring readings from SG -4
has not been very consistent, thus making SG -4 very unreliable in monitoring
off-site migration for the north eastern portion of the Landfill. A new soil gas
monitoring well is needed to be installed away from the sand lens to accurately
monitor off-site migration north eastern side of the landfill.
1.4 WELL LOCATION
The new soil gas monitoring wells ,SG 110 and SG -120, will be installed along
the Northern and Southern perimeter of FHSL (Figure 2). The new wells will be
installed at locations conforming to the requirements of final closure, and will be
drilled to the lowest elevation of the lowest refuse of the landfill in accordance
with newly revised Title 27 Section 20925(c). The location of the new wells will
be staked in the field by a land surveyor.
After installing the new wells, the monitoring perimeter will be adjusted
accordingly, and the Migration Monitoring plan will be revised.
Work Plan — Soil Gas Monitoring Well Installation San Joaquin County
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill Public Works Department
Page 3 of 7 Solid Waste Division
