https:Hpublic.resource.orq This website is run by Carl Malamoud. Contains a vast array of regulatory
information, including certain building and fire codes. Highly recommended.
www.csb.gov The website of the US Chemical Safety Board has many videos and reports on
chemical incidents that provide important safety lessons learned and other key information, including
the Barton Solvents and Bethune Plant videos used in the class. It also contains videos about
petroleum tank accidents and why they have occurred. Also highly recommended.
www.steeltank.com This is the Steel Tank Institute (STI) website. One of their publications is "Tank
Talk" that provides a lot of good information regarding tanks and inspections, as well as incident
summaries. They also have a Linkedln group that you may want to join. The STI website also
includes a link to the Storage Tank Venting Compendium published by STI-a free reference
document that's all about venting, including emergency venting:
http://steeltank.com/Publications/SteelFabBlog/Details/tabid/368/Articleld/341/NEW-Storage-Tank-
Ventinq-A-compendium-of-articles-from-STI-SPFAs-Tank-Talk-newsletter.aspx
www.pei.orq The website for the Petroleum Equipment Institute, PEI, an industry organization that
has a wealth of information, including recommended practices-- they publish the RP-200 document
we used in class. Note that this organization also has a recommended practice "RP-1400,
Recommended Practice for the Design and installation of Emergency Generators..", which is very
useful if you work with Emergency Gen systems.
www.api.orq The website for the American Petroleum Institute, API. While much of their guidance
regarding ASTs is geared toward larger tanks (such as those constructed to the API 650 Standard),
their organization covers virtually all things involving petroleum. They publish a large number of
standards covering many aspects of petroleum production, storage, refining, and distribution. One
publication that is a good reference document for tank inspection is API Recommended Practice 575,
"Inspection Practices for Atmospheric and Low Pressure Storage Tanks"
Agency Information
Federal Resources
http://www2.epa..qov/oil-spills-prevention-and-preparedness-regulations The USEPA's main website
for the SPCC Program. Includes the "SPCC Guidance for Regional Inspectors" document that
provides background information about Plan writing and content. The website also has a link to the
40CFR112 regulations. Both are must haves for those preparing or reviewing SPCC Plans.
Also on the EPA website is further information about trends in corrosion, particularly in USTs. I'd
recommend you keep current on this, since this appears to be a well documented condition in USTs,
which may also apply to ASTs Investigation Of Corrosion-Influencing Factors In Underground
Storage Tanks With Diesel Service found at https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2016-
07/documents/diesel-corrosion-report O.pdf
There are additional resources about these conditions, including corrosion noted with ethanol blends-
-a simple search on Google or other search engines should provide additional resources for you.
California-Specific Resources
For those of you that have clients or facilities in California, or if you may work there in the future, the
Aboveground Petroleum Storage Act (APSA) implementation is overseen by the Office of the State
Fire Marshal, (OSFM). The link to the APSA main page is http://osfm.fire.ca.gov/cupa/apsa
Books and Technical Resources
3
