"Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code Handbook, NFPA 30 and 30A", (NFPA) is published by
NFPA and contains a wealth of information and background info about these important and widely
used standards. The version with the commentary is the one to get, which runs about 600+ pages.
Highly recommended as a resource on these important topics.
The "2018 IFC Code and Commentary (Volumes 1 & 2)", published by the ICC, is a very good
document that provides helpful commentary and background information about the International Fire
Code, which is the Code adopted by California and many other states. A link where you could get a
copy is at https:Hshop.iccsafe.org/codes/2018-international-codes-and-references/2018-
commentaries/2018-ifcr-code-and-commentary-1 .html . I found this to be very helpful in
understanding the Fire Code.
"Aboveground Storage Tanks" by Philip E. Myers, is another great reference on many facets of
petroleum storage tanks. This is a valuable resource, even if you don't work with larger API 650
tanks. Phil Myers is the tank expert interviewed in the Caribbean Petroleum gasoline tank accident
video we watched during the class. Highly recommended as a reference text.
"Handbook of Storage Tank Systems-Codes, Regulations, and Designs", (Marcel Dekker, 2000),
edited by Wayne B. Geyer, is another reference that may be of use. Wayne is the former Executive
Vice President of STI, and is the author of several texts on tanks and related matters. This book
includes good information about both ASTs and USTs.
Thanks again for attending the class--you all were excellent students with great questions and
contributions. I'm hoping you found it useful. Let me know if I can be of help in your future
endeavors.
Keep in touch-and we always like getting pictures you might have that may educate other students in
the future!
Thanks
Craig
Craig R.
