I H. KH I.! IIDER x ASX)(IAII File No . S-2008-1
December 21, 1972
PAGE FIVE
characteristics of the soils . The tests performed included
Moisture Content and Dry Density Determinations and Hydrometer
Analyses . The results of these tests are summarized on the
Logs of Borings and on Table II, respectively.
RECOMMENDED PERCOLATION VALUE
The percolation rates measured in the tests range from
approximately 5 minutes per inch to approximately 21 minutes
per inch . Based on our evaluation of the soils in which these
percolation tests were performed, it is our opinion that the
measured percolation rates are too rapid for this clay soil .
It is possible that the test values were influenced by the
loose condition of the surface soil, or possibly by the tree
root systems . We have selected a value of 20 minutes per
inch as being most nearly representative of the percolation
rate of this soil .
Using a value of 20 minutes per inch, the suggested
allowable rate of sewage application given by the "Manual of
Septic Tank Practice ," U . S . Department of Health, Education
and Welfare , is approximately one gallon per square foot per
day. We recommend that this value of one gallon per square
foot per day be used in your design.
LIMITATIONS
This report is prepared from our field experience , labora-
tory tests , and our understanding of the proposed construction.
