Important;
a. LDT requires all ballast to be removed from the tanks primary 72 hours prior to LDT
arrival onsite .
2 . CSI/NOV tanks interstice is required to have an elevated brine level in order to gain a 0 . 005gph
test
a. The brine level within the interstice is required to be elevated 72 hours before LDT
arrival .
b . Add brine to raise the level within the interstitial riser pipe 4-inches above the bottom of the
riser or 4-inches above the top of the tank interstitial reservoir.
i . Failure to increase the level 72-hours or greater before LDT arrival may indicate an
inconclusive test delaying the opening of the facility.
Dry Interstitial Tanks :
3 . DRY interstice tank tests (MDleak® test method)
a . LDT requires all ballast to be removed from dry interstice tanks prior to LDT arrival
onsite .
Systems :
1 . LDT has no restrictions to the MDleak® testing Methods .
2 . LDT has several chemical markers so site contamination by a single chemical marker is not a
consideration or limitation.
3 . It is best for the contactor to find the majority of the leaks using whatever method they can. Small
leaks are best left to LDT crews to pinpoint than for the contractor to spend hours looking for these
small leaks .
4 . Fast identification and leak location substantially reduce repair cost .
General :
1 . Extraction plugs should be installed and sealed properly .
2 . A construction crew shall be onsite during the test period. This crew should be equipped to repair
any portion of the system.
3 . The MDleak® method can test piping containing liquids . However, if a liquid is present additional
time and cost will be incurred.
Author David Rabb 5of 8
Version 210505
