LEAK DETECTION
T E C H N 0 L 0 G I E S LLC
Exclusive Providers for MDleak® and PHDIeakT' Technologies
2765 East Wieding Rd Tucson, AZ 85718 Phone 520 . 207 . 4878 FAQ : 520 . 990 . 8965 • www.LeakDetect. net
Procedure :
1 . A Proprietary Chemical Marker/Tracer is added to the liquid within the tank interstice during the j
ELD pre-backfill pretest.
2 . Systems check :
a. Prior to starting the test an evaluation of the accessible system components is completed.
LDT will scan exposed components and identifying any leaks for the contractor who will
make repairs . After the completion of the repairs the contractor may leave the site .
b . Once all the accessible components with leaks are repair, LDT can begin testing the
underground portion of the system .
3 . Testing :
a. All secondary containments are sampled and analyzed for the background concentration.
i . The tank interstice chemical marker concentration is analyzed and noted.
ii . Pipeline secondary should be free of all chemical marker that are to be used during
this phase of testing.
b . A new Chemical Marker/Tracer is pumped throughout the systems primary; product, vent,
vapor return piping and dry interstice tanks .
c . Each component is pressurized to the working pressure of the individual component with
the chemical marker.
d. Once the primary component is pressurized with the Chemical Marker/Tracer gas the
secondary containment surrounding the primary containment can be sampled. This
sampling even includes tank sumps , pipelines , and dry tank interstice for primary tank leaks .
e . If the Chemical Marker/Tracer is found in the secondary containment sample a leak is
declared and the leak location will be identified .
4 . Tank Testing :
a. During the day of testing the primary tank is to be maintained closed from the atmosphere
b . Dry interstice tanks primaries are inoculated first
i . Sampling of the tank interstice is performed for the chemical marker.
c . Wet interstice tanks REQUIRE all liquids to be removed from the tank primary 72-hours
before testing can begin . No liquid can be added or removed to the tank interstice during
the 72-hour period.
5 . Spill Bucket Testing :
a . Spill Buckets are pneumatically tested. A leak rate is calculated and could indicate a leak
within the spill bucket.
b . If a leak is detected the contractor will be directed to the leak and a repair of the spill bucket
will be completed.
I
Author David Rabb 7of 8
Version 210505
