CHEMICAL/HAZARDOUS SPILL <br /> The following are the locations of: <br /> Spill Kit, Personal Protective Equipment(PPE), MSDS: Zone 1 (See Emergency Response Site Map) <br /> When a Large Chemical Spill has occurred: <br /> • Immediately notify the Manager/Supervisor on site <br /> • Review and reference to the SPILL KIT user guide <br /> • Contain the spill with available equipment (e.g., pads, brooms, absorbent powder, etc.) <br /> • Secure the area and alert other site personnel <br /> • Do not attempt to clean the spill unless trained to do so. <br /> • Call a local spill cleanup company or the Fire Department to perform a large chemical <br /> (e.g., mercury) spill cleanup.... <br /> • Evacuate building as necessary <br /> In the event of an emergency involving hazardous materials and/or hazardous waste, all <br /> facilities must IMMEDIATELY: <br /> 1. Notify facility personnel and evacuate, if necessary, in accordance with Emergency <br /> Action Plan <br /> 2. Notify local emergency responders by calling 9-1-1 <br /> 3. Notify the local Unified Program Agency (UPA) at the phone number listed on the <br /> Emergency Phone Numbers page. <br /> When a Small Chemical Spill has occurred: <br /> • Notify the Manager/Supervisor on site <br /> • If toxic fumes are present, secure the area (with caution tapes or cones)to prevent <br /> other personnel from entering. <br /> • Deal with the spill I accordance with the instructions described in the MSDS. <br /> • Small spills must be handled in a safe manner, while wearing the proper PPE. <br /> • Review and reference to the SPILL KIT cleanup procedures. <br /> Propane Cylinders safety checks and spill prevention Process: <br /> 1. Forklift Training <br /> • All forklift operators are trained by GW's certified Forklift Trainer on the proper use of <br /> how to operate a Forklift, as well as safely changing propane cylinders (guide posted <br /> near propane cylinder storage cage). Re-Certification is to be renewed every 2 years, <br /> passing tests are to be kept in personnel file with HR. <br /> 2. Daily checks of cylinders and of cage <br /> • Weekly inspections sign-off sheet from Manager/Supervisor or designated safety <br /> coordinator to ensure there are no leaks and cage is in good condition. <br /> Contact Suburban Propane immediately with any leaks and issues to cylinder and or cage safety. <br /> 10 of 13 <br />
