S-2490-1
September 27 , 1982
Glantz-Deimler-Dorman
1150 West Robinhood Drive
Stockton, Ca 95207
Attention : Mr. Larry Deimler
Subject : RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CONCRETE PAVING
SADDLE CITY
HIGHWAY 12 AND THORNTON ROAD
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
Gentlemen :
This letter is to document our recent discussions regarding
the thickness for concrete paving at the subject project. The
two lots involved are for a commercial structure and a gas
station. The maximum anticipated loading will be from tanker
trucks.
According to previous work performed by our firm at the
site, we conclude that the near-surface soils are likely to
consist of sandy silt or silty clay. Resistance-Values for
the project are in the range of 20. Based on this information,
we have used for design a K-Value (Modulus Subgrade Reaction)
of 150 pounds per cubic inch. We have assumed that the subgrade
soils would be compacted to a minimum of 95 percent of the
maximum dry density as determined by the ASTM D-1557-70 test
procedure at a moisture content near or slightly above optimum.
We have also assumed that concrete would have a minimum compressive
strength of 4 , 000 pounds per square inch. Using this data, we
have reviewed the design procedures from PCA and Proctor & Gamble.
With the limited amount of truck traffic expected, both methods
indicate an unreinforced thickness of 6 inches .
