SOIL PERMEABILITY RESULTS AND SOIL CHEMICAL TESTING
To assess the permeability of the existing shallow and deep disposal area soils, three percolation
test borings were completed as illustrated on the aerial photo in Appendix F. The shallow boring
at the 36 inch depth is representative of the permeability occurring at leachline depths. The 10 ft
boring depth represents permeability at a typical sump structure depth. The 25 ft exploratory
boring was converted to a 25 ft deep percolation test boring after soil sampling procedures were
completed to measure percolation at the seepage pit depths.
After drilling, the sidewall of the shallow boring was scored with a pry -bar to open potentially
smeared soil surfaces and the cuttings removed. Two inches of pea gravel was placed at the
bottom of all three borings and a three-inch perforated PVC pipe was inserted to prevent cave-ins.
The borings were pre -saturated with 12 inches of water approximately 24 hrs prior to the start of
testing.
On November 3, 2021, percolation testing commenced. No standing water was observed in the
test borings after the 24 -hr soak period. Consequently, EHD Perc Test Procedure #2 was
conducted for the test borings. Testing was done over a four-hour period to induce maximum soil
saturation.
A summary of the perc test results with corresponding application rates in gallons of effluent
accepted per square foot of soil per day, are illustrated below:
TABLE 2
PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS WITH CORRESPONDING
APPLICATION RATES IN GALLONS / FT'/ DAY
36 INCH PERC TEST
0.0 min/inch / 0.0 gallons/ft`/day
10 FT PERC TEST
83.3 min/inch / 0.123 gallons/ft'/day
25 FT PERC TEST
62.5 min/inch / 0.190 gallons/ft`/day
Page -3-
Chesney Consulting
