David Wharry of Tracy CHP, Juan Armendarez of
CalTrans Hazmat, John Miller, CalTrans Maintenance Area Superintendent, and
Talwinder Singh, responsible party representative. Observed a — 50-gallon diesel
spill on northbound highway 5 and on the soil on the east side of the highway. The
diesel spill was from a truck's (US DOT-2879244, ICCMC-1027917, CA-480667,
VIN-BSAU6452) saddle tank, which was damaged and burned due to a truck and
trailer accident and fire. According to John Miller, the used
absorbent will be taken to the Caltrans Stockton yard, where it will be placed in two
drums for storage until disposal. Caltrans covered the diesel-contaminated soil
with visqueen and traffic cones until the responsible party hires a cleanup
contractor to perform the remainder of the cleanup.
