N
WASTE DISPOSAL PLAN
Liquid Winery Waste
We understand that the standard for a small winery is roughly 1 gal of waste water generated for
each gallon of wine produced. Therefore, we should produce in the neighborhood of 3500
gallons of waste water during the wine making process.
Following several discussions with Timothy O'Brien of the California Regional Water Quality
Control Board, we have concluded that the best solution to the disposal of winery waste water is
to hold the water in an above ground tank and then haul the waste water to a facility that will
accept the waste water.
We have located a 1200 gallon tank mounted on a truck. Based on the anticipated 3500 gallons
of winery waste water, we will need to haul 3 tank loads to a waste water disposal facility per
year. Our options are to deliver the wastewater to the City of Lodi facility or to one of the local
wineries that are permitted to accept wastewater.
We understand that we will not be given final approval until a letter is presented from a party
that will accept the wastewater.
Grape Pumice (Skins and Seeds)
Timothy O'Brien of the California Regional Water Quality Control Board has told me that the
preferred acceptable way of disposing of grape pumice, is to spread it in the vineyard and disc it
into the ground. We think that is a good plan and so will follow his recommendation.
Other Waste Materials
All other waste materials will be hauled to the County dump on Harney Lane.
334308-1
