17 December 2019
AGE Project No. 14-3002

3.2. SOIL BORING ADVANCEMENT AND ANALYSIS

All field procedures will be overseen by an AGE representative under the supervision of
a California Professional Geologist. Procedures for the advancement of soil borings,
sampling, equipment decontamination, and sample shipment activities are outlined
below.

3.3. SOIL BORING ADVANCEMENT – SOUTH WASTE CELL

AGE proposes to advance approximately six (6) soil borings along the eastern property
boundary to further delineate the former South Waste Cell and confirm the waste cell
does not extend onto the subject property. The proposed number of borings is an estimate
and may be adjusted in the field to define the limits of the waste cell. Additional step-out
borings may be necessary to define the limits of the waste cell. Conversely, fewer borings
may be advanced if waste is not encountered.

The proposed soil borings will be advanced utilizing a direct-push drilling rig equipped
with 1.25-inch or 2.0-inch diameter hollow-probing rods or a 3-inch diameter hand auger.
The hand auger may be used for borings advanced directly adjacent to the property
boundary where the stormwater retention pond for 17100 Murphy Parkway has been
excavated to 5 feet bsg. The direct-push drilling rig advances soil probe borings using a
hydraulic hammer to drive soil sampling tools to specified depths. Direct-push borings will
be advanced to depths of approximately 10 feet bsg; borings advanced with the hand-
auger will be completed to depths of approximately 5 feet bsg. Proposed boring locations
are illustrated in Figure 3.

Soil samples and potential waste samples (if encountered) will be collected from the
direct-push borings using a 1.25-inch or 2-inch diameter Geoprobe soil sampling
assembly loaded with a two-foot or four-foot acetate liner. Soil samples will be collected
continuously between the surface and the total depth of all borings. Soil and waste
encountered in the borings will be visually classified by AGE personnel in accordance
with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) or type of materials encountered.
Additionally, soil samples will be field-screened for the presence of volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) using an organic vapor meter equipped with a photo-ionization
detector (PID) calibrated to isobutylene.

Soil and waste samples collected will not be preserved for analysis.

3.4. SOIL BORING ADVANCEMENT – FORMER POWER PLANT AREA

AGE proposes to advance a total of fifteen (15) soil borings in the former power plant
area to define the limits of PCB- and TPH-impacted soil. Eight (8) borings will be
advanced to total depths of 10 feet bsg and seven (7) borings will be advanced to total
