Soil Investigation Report
Pilkington North America, Inc.
March 30, 2011
Page 5
Hydrocarbon odors, gray staining, and PID detections were noted between 1 and 12 feet bgs in boring
GP 15, near the location of the historic release. Hydrocarbon odors, gray staining, and/or PID detections
were noted between 4 and 12 feet bgs in borings GP 17, GP 18, GP 19, and GP20. No hydrocarbon odors
were noted but gray staining, and PID detections were noted between 4 and 10 feet bgs in boring GP 13.
No hydrocarbon odors were noted but gray staining and PID detections were noted from 8 feet to 12 feet
bgs in boring GP 14. No hydrocarbon odors were noted but gray staining and PID detections were noted
from 7 feet to 12 feet bgs and 11 to 12 feet bgs, respectively, in boring GP 16. No hydrocarbon odors
were noted but PID detections were noted from 8 feet to 12 feet bgs in boring GP -12 with gray staining
beginning at 11 feet. No hydrocarbon odors or PID detections were noted in boring GP -21, but gray
staining was noted beginning at 10 feet. No hydrocarbon odors, gray staining, or PID detections were
noted from the surface to 12 feet bgs in borings GP22 and GP23. PID measurements of soil samples
collected from the borings indicated organic vapors were detected at concentrations up to 145 parts per
million (ppm) in GP IS at approximately 10 feet bgs. Field observations generally indicated that there was
a pattern of greater hydrocarbon impacts with proximity to the location of the original release location.
6.2 RESULTS OF LABORATORY ANALYSES
Soil sample laboratory analytical results are presented in Table 1, below. Laboratory analytical results for
the composite sample for waste disposal characterization are presented in Table 2, on the following page.
Copies of laboratory analytical results and chain -of -custody records for the samples are included in
Appendix C.
Table 1 Soil Sample aborator r Analytic I Results
Method
SW8021B
/8015Bm
SW8021B
/8015Bm
SW8021B
/8015Bm
SW8021B
/8015Bm
SW8021B
/8015Bm
SW8021B
/8015Bm
SW8015B
Sample I.D.
Sample
Date
B
(mg/kg)
T
(mg/kg)
E
(mg/kg)
X
(mg/kg)
MTBE
(mg/kg)
TPH-G
(mg/kg)
TPH-D
(mg/kg)
GP12 - 12
3/18/11
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
2.1 e
GP13 — 9
3/18/11
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
2.0 e
GP14 — 10
3/18/11
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
11 e'
GP15 —11
3/18/11
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
14,000 e'
GP16 —10
3/18/11
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
4,000 e'
GP17-11
3/18/11
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
8,200 e'
GP18 — 11
3/18/11
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
12,000 e'
GP19 — 11.5
3/18/11
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
11,000 e'
GP20 —11.5
3/18/11
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
5,200 e'
GP21-12
3/18/11
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
2.5 e
GP22 —11.5
3/18/11
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
1.3 e
GP23 — 11
3/18/11
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
NA
5.2 e'
Disposal — com
3/18/11
< 0.005
< 0.005
< 0.005
.01
04
< 0.05
25 d
2,400 e'
Unit Conversions: Analytical:
mg/kg = milligrams per kilogram B,T,E,X = benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, total xylenes
= parts per million (ppm) MTBE = methyl tertiary -butyl ether
TPH-G = total petroleum hydrocarbons, quantified as gasoline
TPH-D = total petroleum hydrocarbons, quantified as diesel
e' =unmodified or weakly modified diesel is significant
e2 = diesel range compounds are significant; no recognizable pattern
d = strongly aged gasoline or diesel range compounds are significant in the TPH(g) chromatogram
NA = not analyzed
1W
1 n
