Soil Suitability Study*** APN: 051-160-04 *** 5 Acres Parcel ***McLaughlin Refuse Equipment,Inc.
International Horseshoe Company owned and operated the subject property for an
unknown amount of time. Then Cambridge Wire company purchased the subject property
and owned and operated the property for 7 years and 2 months. The property then went
into private ownership and use for 15 years and 10 months. Danny and Susan
McLaughlin then purchased the property and have established and operated the
McLaughlin Refuse Company, Inc. on it for the past 2 years and 6 months.
Property Description: On Wednesday, June 26, 2002,the subject property was reviewed
in the field. The improvements that have been constructed and the various features of the
property and the items stored on the subject property have been aforementioned under
"Present Land Use" above and are also shown on the"Site Plan" which accompanies this
report.
Many of the aforementioned items seen on the property search are highly
transportable and easily moved; so none of the positions, number of items or locations
may be the same as those described above on any subject property search subsequent to
June 26, 2002.
Soil Character: The University of California publication entitled"Soils of San Joaquin
County, California by Walter W. Weir, dated June 1952, refers to the soil in this general
area as being San Joaquin Loam (Poorly Drained). This is soil on older plains and
terraces having hardpan subsoil layers generally underlain with unconsolidated material.
It is a medium textured soil having hardpan or hardpan like subsoil and is poorly drained.
It is generally derived from parent material that is alluvial soil derived from acid igneous
(granitic) sources. The surface soil is generally reddish-brown in color and it is on a
nearly level slope, less than 2%.
The soil is slightly acid in reaction and it is resistant to erosion. It is alkali free
with less than 0.2% soluble salts. The soil has good surface drainage and poor subsurface
drainage. The Storie Index is 12 making it very poor for growing agricultural crops.
The"Soil Survey of San Joaquin County, California,United States Department of
Agriculture Soil Conservation Service" issued October 1992 lists the soil type in this
general area as San Joaquin Loam, thick surface, on a 0 to 2% slope. This soil listed as
moderately well drained, nearly level and in low fan terraces. It is moderately deep to
hardpan. It is formed in alluvium derived from granitic sources. The native vegetation is
mainly annual grasses, and scattered California White Oak. A few areas are dissected by
intermittent sloughs.
The annual rainfall in the area is about 16" and the annual air temperature is about
61 degrees Fahrenheit. The average frost-free period is about 275 days.
Typically the surface layer is pinkish gray in color and about 12"thick. The upper
14 inches of the subsoil is brown sandy clay loam. The next 9 inches is brown clay. The
lower part to a depth of 60 inches is a brown and light brown indurated hardpan. In some
areas the surface layer is fine sandy loam or sandy loam.
Dsnv R• Gican MnTsmahlin i iQon F T.nnke Rnnd Unnkefhni CA 95717 Phnne• (7091113-4414 7
