After development , the bottom of the well shall be sand-pumped
to remove all sand , silt, and material from the casing.
Within 24 hours after the urell has been developed water samples
shall be taken and analyzed by a State Certified Laboratory as
to physic-1 and chemical characteristics . All work: on the well
shall be suspended until the results of these tests are analyzed
by the Engineer.
B. Disinfection
After the well has been completely constructed and developed , it
shall be thoroughly cleaned of all foreign substances , including
tools , timbers , rope , debris of any kind , cement , oil ,grease, joint
done and scum. The well shall then be disinfected with. a chlorine
solution. It may be added , if desired , while the test pump is Mill
in place and the well surged to help distribute the chlorine
solution.
The chlorine solution used for disinfecting the well shall be of
such volume and strength and shall be so applied that a concentration
of at least 50 parts per million of chlorine shall be obtained in
all parts of the well water. The chlorine solution shall remain in
the well for at least two hours..
Upon completion of the well, the top of the casing shall be capped
13 inches above grade by means of a cap or steel plate of proper
size securely fastened or spot-welded in place.
C . Construction
1. WELL GROUTING AND CONSTRUCTION
The primary purpose is to prevant •contamination, pollution and
degradation of water wells and of the ground water by poor
quality water.
a. The annular space between the well casing and the wall of
the drilled hole or between the conductor pipe and the wall
of the drilled hole or the well casing shall be filled with
cement grout or puddled clay from the ground surface into
an impervious formation underlaying the uppermost aquifer.
If an impervious formation does not exist , the annular
space shall be filled to a sufficient depth to prevent
polluted or contaminated water from entering the well. The
minimum depth of the annular seal shall be as follows :
Public Water supplies - - - - - - - - - - - - - 5Oft.
Individual Domestic 'dells - - - - - - - - - - - 50ft.
industrial ''ells - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 50-ft.
Agric.iltural '.,'ells - - - - - - - - - - - - - - a"
Air Conditioning "Tells - - - - - - - - - - - - 20ft .
(40)
