D. . PRESSURE TANK <br /> 1. The water supply pressure tank shall be of all welded steel <br /> construction built in accordance with the requirements of the <br /> A.S .,;.E . Code Section VIII for Unfired Pressure Vessels . All <br /> seams shall be double welded butt joints . The tank shE-.11 be <br /> designed for a working: pressure o.f 100 pounds per square inch, <br /> and shall be tested to a pressure of 150 lbs . per square inch <br /> before being painted . The outside of the tank shall be given <br /> one shop coat of red lead and oil, and the inside thorou.:hly <br /> sandblasted and cleaned of all rust , scale and foroign matter <br /> and . given one coat of Inertol No . 626 Primer and two coats of <br /> Inertol no. 5504 Aluminum paint. <br /> 2 . The tank supplier shall provide all necessary taps and couplinr7s <br /> for pressure system controls . <br /> 3. Shop drawings shall be supplied to the --,Ingineer and approved <br /> prior to commencing any fabrication. <br /> 4. Excavation for the tank base shall be carried to firm <br /> undisturbed soil , in no case less than twelve inches below <br /> the original ground surface. Should the Contractor excavate <br /> to a greater death than required for the foundations or, if, <br /> in the opinion of the ng:ineer, the soil has inadequate bearing <br /> value an, additional excavation is required, the additional depth <br /> shall be filled by on.e of the following methods : <br /> 1. By incrresing the depth of the foundation. <br /> 2 . By filling to the plan elevation with Class "C" <br /> concrete vibrated into place. <br /> 3. By placing approved imported material in layers not <br /> exceeding four inches in depth. each layer shall be <br /> moistened and thoroughly tamped to a relative compaction <br /> of not less than 95 percent. <br /> Excavation for all other concrete at the well site shall be as <br /> outlined above except that undercutting may be backfilled to the <br /> proper level using clean sand , graded gravel , or other approved <br /> material. No further work shall be conducted until the Engineer <br /> has approved the foundation upon which concrete is to be placed. <br /> 5. Concrete work <br /> Forms shall be smooth, mortar tight , true to the dimensions <br /> given , and have sufficient strength and bracing to prevent <br /> distortion when the concrete is added . All exposed corners <br /> shall be chamfered with 1" x 1" triangular fillets , surfaced <br /> on all sides . All forms shall be treated with a mineral- form <br /> oil or wet thoroughly with water immediately before placing <br /> the concrete. When form oil is used , it shallbe applied <br /> before the reinforcement is placed . Any material which will <br /> adhere to or discolor the concrete or affect the painting; of <br /> the structure shall not be used . <br /> Reinforcing steel shall conform to the sizes and shapes shown <br /> on the drawinF:s . Before being placed in the forms , the steel <br /> shall be thoroughly cleaned of mill or rust scale, mortar, oil, <br /> dirt , or cortin,s of any character that would tend to destroy <br /> or reduce the bond . It shall be accurately placed as shown on <br /> (47) <br />
