Operation, Care, and Maintenance <br />Use of Bypass Valve 1. Do not place heavy objects on top of the conditioner <br />cover. <br />Depending on where the particular installation was made, <br />the outside sill cocks may or may not be served by condi- <br />tioned water. Ideally, all lines not requiring soft water should <br />be taken off upstream of the softener. This is not always <br />possible, however, due to the difficulty or expense of rear- <br />ranging the piping. <br />Bypass the softener if: <br />The outside lines do not bypass the water softener and <br />the water is to be used for lawn sprinkling or other out- <br />side uses. <br />2. Water is not used for several days. <br />3. You wish to inspect or work on the valve or salt <br />container. <br />4. A water leak from the valve is evident. <br />Three -Valve Bypass <br />To bypass, close the inlet and outlet valves, and open the <br />bypass valve. Reverse the process to get soft water once <br />again. Be sure to close the bypass valve completely to avoid <br />mixing hard water with the soft water. <br />,&WARNING! IF THE MEDIA TANK IS TO REMAIN <br />ATTACHED TO THE CONTROL VALVE, CLOSE <br />ONLY THE INLET VALVE, THEN OPEN THE BYPASS <br />VALVE. THIS WILL PREVENT PRESSURE FROM <br />INCREASING IN THE MEDIA TANK DUE TO WARM- <br />ING. <br />CARE AND CLEANING <br />Protect the operation and appearance of the water conditioner <br />by following these precautions: <br />22 / HI-FLO® 2 WATER SOFTENER <br />2. Use only mild soap and warm water to clean the exterior <br />of the unit. Never use harsh abrasive cleaners or com <br />pounds which contain acid or bleach. <br />3. Protect the conditioner and drain line from freezing tem- <br />peratures. <br />4. Reset the timer as soon as possible after any interrup- <br />tion of electrical power to keep the unit on its normal <br />schedule. <br />CONVERSION TO TIMECLOCK OPERATION <br />If an Aqua -Sensor® component malfunctions (on units so <br />equipped) and a replacement part is not available, the timer <br />should be converted to timeclock operation until it can be <br />repaired. Refer to the wiring schematics on page 24. <br />1. Disconnect power to the unit and remove both timer <br />covers. <br />2. Locate the orange and black wires connected to the Aqua - <br />Sensor wiring harness. Unplug each wire at their spade <br />connectors. Plug the male connector on the black har- <br />ness wire into the female connector on the orange har- <br />ness wire and secure. NOTICE: The Aqua -Sensor cir- <br />cuit now is isolated and carries no current. The wires <br />are plugged together only to simplify replacement. <br />3. Plug the spade connectors of the two loose wires together. <br />This connects the common terminal of the timer pro- <br />gram switch to the HOT side of the terminal block. <br />4. Set the desired recharge frequency and salt dosage (see <br />page 18). <br />5. Replace both timer covers and reconnect power to the <br />unit. <br />
