Operation, Care, and Maintenance
Use of Bypass Valve 1. Do not place heavy objects on top of the conditioner
cover.
Depending on where the particular installation was made,
the outside sill cocks may or may not be served by condi-
tioned water. Ideally, all lines not requiring soft water should
be taken off upstream of the softener. This is not always
possible, however, due to the difficulty or expense of rear-
ranging the piping.
Bypass the softener if:
The outside lines do not bypass the water softener and
the water is to be used for lawn sprinkling or other out-
side uses.
2. Water is not used for several days.
3. You wish to inspect or work on the valve or salt
container.
4. A water leak from the valve is evident.
Three -Valve Bypass
To bypass, close the inlet and outlet valves, and open the
bypass valve. Reverse the process to get soft water once
again. Be sure to close the bypass valve completely to avoid
mixing hard water with the soft water.
,&WARNING! IF THE MEDIA TANK IS TO REMAIN
ATTACHED TO THE CONTROL VALVE, CLOSE
ONLY THE INLET VALVE, THEN OPEN THE BYPASS
VALVE. THIS WILL PREVENT PRESSURE FROM
INCREASING IN THE MEDIA TANK DUE TO WARM-
ING.
CARE AND CLEANING
Protect the operation and appearance of the water conditioner
by following these precautions:
22 / HI-FLO® 2 WATER SOFTENER
2. Use only mild soap and warm water to clean the exterior
of the unit. Never use harsh abrasive cleaners or com
pounds which contain acid or bleach.
3. Protect the conditioner and drain line from freezing tem-
peratures.
4. Reset the timer as soon as possible after any interrup-
tion of electrical power to keep the unit on its normal
schedule.
CONVERSION TO TIMECLOCK OPERATION
If an Aqua -Sensor® component malfunctions (on units so
equipped) and a replacement part is not available, the timer
should be converted to timeclock operation until it can be
repaired. Refer to the wiring schematics on page 24.
1. Disconnect power to the unit and remove both timer
covers.
2. Locate the orange and black wires connected to the Aqua -
Sensor wiring harness. Unplug each wire at their spade
connectors. Plug the male connector on the black har-
ness wire into the female connector on the orange har-
ness wire and secure. NOTICE: The Aqua -Sensor cir-
cuit now is isolated and carries no current. The wires
are plugged together only to simplify replacement.
3. Plug the spade connectors of the two loose wires together.
This connects the common terminal of the timer pro-
gram switch to the HOT side of the terminal block.
4. Set the desired recharge frequency and salt dosage (see
page 18).
5. Replace both timer covers and reconnect power to the
unit.
