H
F
4. SITE DESCRIETLC,14
Accessability to the site is fran Austin Road which intersects both
French Can -p Road, 3 miles south of the site, and Mariposa Road, 2 miles
north of the site. State Highway 99, which connects Manteca with Stockton,
is located 2 miles west of the site. Interchanges on State Highway 99 at
French Camp Road and Mariposa Road provide convenient freeway access.
The 110 acre landfill is divided by the County -maintained Littlejohn
Creek. Access to the landfill area north of the creek will be by easement
for ingress -egress along the extended north property line of the site out '
to Austin Road. Access to the landfill area south of the creek will be
directly off Austin Road at the southeast corner of the landfill area.
B - Topography
The terrain at the site and in the surrounding vicinity consist of a
relatively featureless plain, which slopes gently downward to the southwest
at a rate of approximately 6 feet per mile. These features are altered by
the Forward Inc. landfill operations to the east, Littlejohn Creek traversint
the site, and the City of Stockton landfill to the north and northwest.
Elevations on the Stockton landfill have been raised approximately fifteen
to twenty feet above original grade by the cut and cover landfill operation.
The Littlejohn Creek traverses both the Forward Inc. property and proposed
County landfill property in a southwesterly direction separating the site
into two distinct areas, one north of the creek containing approximately
two-thirds of the site and one south of the creek containing the other one-
third of the site. The Forward Inc. landfill operations extend fran Austin
Road easterly approxiamtely 850 feet and is confined north of the creek.
A resource recovery and transfer station operation exists south of the creek.
The topography of the Forward operation is characterized by landfill along
Austin Road cresting to forty feet above the natural ground surface. Several
disposal trenches and ponds have been constructed just west of the landfill
for the Class 1 operations. The general locations of these -topographic
features appear in the plates for this report.
C. Land Use
Acreage in the vicinity of the site is zoned GA -40 (40 acre agricultural
preserve land) and is used primarily for cultivated row crop land. The
Forward Inc. operations and City of Stockton Class 2-2 landfill operations
are designated as solid waste disposal sites in the County General Plan.
The Northern California You Authority Center, located lh miles due
north of the site and the Stockton metropolitan Airport (end of runway) are
the only land uses other than agriculture in the vicinity of the site.
