Initial Start Up
After all preliminary checks have been performed, the plant should be filled with water
or sewage. When the diffusers in the Aeration Tank are submerged approximately two
feet, proceed to start blower.
1 . Turn blower(s) H-O-A switch to "ON" position, starting blowers at minimum speed.
Listen for any unusual noises.
2. Once the blowers have started, rising air bubbles should be noted in the aeration
tank. The entire length of the tank should be observed for even air distribution.
The valves located at the top of each drop pipe assembly should be adjusted, if
necessary, to produce an approximate equal amount of air to each diffuser
assembly. This adjustment can be made with sufficient accuracy by visual
observation of the surface turbulence.
3. If there is an obvious difference in air distribution, this indicates either a header
assembly is out of level, or partial clogging of one or more diffusers and removal or
inspection of drop is necessary.
4. When the water level in the plant is high enough that the water begins to overflow
the effluent weir, the weir should be adjusted so the water is overflowing across
the entire length of the weir. Slotted holes or adjustment clips are provided in the
weir plates to permit accurate adjustment of the weir.
5. The Airlift Pumps in the final settling tank will start operation when the blowers are
started and the regulating valves provided in the air line to the airlift pumps is in
the open position. The airlift pumps must operate continuously and the total
pumping rate should be approximately equal to the incoming raw sewage average
flow rate. The airlift's pumping rate can be managed by regulating the air control
valves. The hopper closest to the clarifier inlet is generally set higher than the
second is.
6. The Surface Airlift Skimmer will also start operating when the blower is started.
This unit skims floating material from the surface of the final tank and discharges it
back into the aeration tank. This unit is equipped with a riser pipe for adjustment
of the skimmer. It should be adjusted so that the whole surface of the tank moves
toward the airlift.
7. Check connections of tablet chlorinators and tighten if necessary and check
equipment operation manual for proper operation and dosage rate. When using
tube style chlorinators, and the permit designates you should be chlorinating at
this time fill tubes with tablets and instruct the operator to check tube status and
residual daily until the consumption rate is determined.
Check that the Chlorine Contact Tank is clean and that an adequate supply of chlorine
tablets has been obtained and the operator has a source readily available.
i polo mvsfartup-pi"Clli7lili
