Denitrified Sludge Weir Baffle <br /> Containing the <br /> Sludge <br /> � i <br /> Denitrified Sludge in Clarifier <br /> Three possible causes for denitrification are: <br /> • The settled bacteria are not able to reach the inlet to the RAS pump. <br /> • The clarifier sludge blanket is too high in the clarifier. <br /> • The RAS return rate is too low (possibly a plugged pipe) <br /> The operator should gently scrape the side walls of the clarifier with a squeegee to push solids <br /> on the side wall down to the inlet of the return pump, every day. <br /> Biological Foam in Clarifier <br /> Excessive biological foam generated in the aeration tank will be retained by the weir baffle. The <br /> floating bacteria will begin to decay and will re-release dissolved pollutants into the water which <br /> will lead to effluent violation. Don't allow the clarifier to be smothered by biological foam. <br /> High Levels in Clarifier <br /> If high level are seen in the clarifier or the clarifier weirs are under water, then look for a clog in <br /> the outlet piping, such as the ones seen below. <br />
