Date: June 28, 2006 <br />To: All Environmental Service Staff <br />From: Jose' Watson, Manager, EVS <br />Modesto/Tracy <br />Doris McCafferty, Supervisor, EVS <br />Stockton <br />Subject: San -I -Pak Sterilizer and Compactor <br />Effective immediately the use and operation of the San -I -Pak Sterilizer and <br />compactor has been shut down and restricted as of 06/27/06. (Not to be used <br />until Authorized by EHS Officer) <br />All Medical Waste is to be red bagged and placed into medical waste barrels <br />provided by medical waste vendor (Stericycle). All waste inside of compactor has <br />been deemed infectious and is to be removed, placed into red bags, which is <br />then to be placed into medical waste barrels and stored in medical waste bunker <br />(holding container) to await p/u by Stericycle. EVS staff has been authorized <br />overtime to facilitate the removal of waste as required. Appropriate PPE is being <br />utilized as well as frequent breaks and water is being provided for adequate <br />hydration. All solid waste is to be placed into debris box, provided by vendor <br />(Waste Management) near/at loading dock area. Prior to filling debris box Waste <br />Management is to be contacted for pick -u, dump and return. Use of the <br />compactor has been shut down and restricted as of 06/27/06. (Not to be used <br />until Authorized by EHS Officer). Stericycle will provide the necessary barrels <br />and pickup daily, and until further notice. Waste Management will also provide <br />the necessary dump and return of debris until Authorization has been given to <br />restart use of compactor. <br />Should you have any questions or concerns please contact your Supervisor <br />immediately. <br />Thank you for your cooperation, and support of these procedures. <br />
