' August 7, 1987 Project 116-1.10
2. Waste Management Unit Information
WMU A
' WMU A is a Class II-1 landfill unit. The location of WMU A is shown on the
attached location map (Figure 1) . The topography of the area in the
' vicinity of the subject site is shown on the topographic map (Figure 2) .
WMU A covers approximately 8 acres, and has a capacity of about
320,000 cu.yds. No waste has been disposed into WMU A since October, 1984,
and none will be accepted into WMU A in the future. A Closure Plan for WMU
A is presently being prepared, and will be submitted in the fall of 1987.
The following is a description of the wastes that were placed in WMU A.
This list is as complete as possible based on all site records and
manifests. Each waste is listed along with the waste generator.
FMC Corporation Industrial Chemical Division- barium/strontium sludge,
' combined solids from the leaching and kiln gas scrubber
operations containing as major components: barium and
strontium sulfates, barium silicates, unburned carbon,
strontium carbonate, calcium hydroxide, and calcium sulfate
' and sulfite. Minor components include barium and strontium
sulfides, sodium sulfite and sulfate, iron and aluminum
oxides, magnesium hydroxide, silica and trace quantities of
numerous metal oxides, hydroxide and sulfides. The moisture
content ramges from 20-50%, and there was no free water
associated with the waste. Approximately 300,000
' cu. yds. were placed in WMU A. The material contains
hazardous constituents, as defined in Appendix VIII of 40
CFR 261.
Chemical and Pigment Company- Soil contaminated with zinc, lead, copper,
iron, magnesium, sodium, aluminum, silicon, nickel,
cadmium, silver, chloride. The material contains
' hazardous constituents, as defined in Appendix VIII of
40 CFR 261.
Crowley Environmental- Soil contaminated with #2 diesel, oil sorbent
material. The material contains hazardous
constituents, as defined in Appendix VIII of 40 CFR
261.
' C & S Battery- soil contaminated with lead. The material contains hazardous
constituents, as defined in Appendix VIII of 40 CFR 261.
' - 2 -
GBeta c_4ssociates
