-
0
. , r
Section 17682 - Cover
The uncovered refuse observed at 0715 hours was the result of
the previous day equipment breakdown. Cover is placed on the
refuse on a daily basis in accordance with the State Minimum
Standards.
Section 17684 - Intermediate Cover
The area of protruding waste observed has been corrected.
Intermediate cover is in place over all surfaces where no
more waste will be deposited for 180 days.
Section 17707 - Vector and Pird Control
The number of flies is not a day to day problem at the site.
Food processing wastes are not allowed in the working face.
On the day in question there was apparently some food wastes
mixed with the drop box waste received. This is mitigated by
the application of daily cover.
Section 17742 - Hazardous Waste
Since the date of this inspection a revised method of
handling asbestos waste has been implemented at the site.
The asbestos is now placed in an area separate from the
refuse working face and is immediately upon receipt covered
with several feet of soil . Equipment does not come in
contact with the asbestos and care is taken to ensure that
the containers are not broken.
All drivers of commercial vehicles who enter the site have
been made aware and are periodically reminded that hazardous
wastes including empty containers are prohibited at the site.
Additionally, the sign at the entrance of the landfill states
that no toxic wastes are accepted.
Additional Action
In addition to the action described above directional signs
have been erected to direct the drivers to the proper
disposal areas.
Safety equipment including respirators, gloves, and other
protective clothing is worn by personnel working at the site
and two way radios are used for communications.
The cleats on the compactor that were in a worn condition at
Page 2
