Mr. Michael T. Feeley
February 9
Page 2
WORKPLAN
.l FOR THE
CLOSURE O WASTE MANAGEMENT is
FORWARD LANDFILL, STOCKTON, CA
ITEM 1 Definition of aquifer characteristicl
The underlying aquifer at the Forward Landfill has been characterized
in detail in the Response to the Notice of Deficiency submitted by EBA
on behalf of Forward, Inc. in April of 1988. The geologic
investigations performed for this report, as well as the information
obtained during the drilling of the new wells on the site, has provided
detailed information of the underlying geology and hydrogeology.
Quantitative information pertaining to the vertical interconnection of
the different zones of the aquifer at the site will be collected by
performing a pump test on the paired wells 7 and 8. Water will be
pumped from the deep well and the shallow well will be monitored for
any water level changes. The hydraulic conductivity of the upper and
lower zones will be determined by slug tests on wells 7 and 8. Rather
than introducing a known volume of water into the wells, a
decontaminated pipe of known volume will be placed in the deeper
wells to displace the water level. The required pump and slug tests
will be performed and the required evaluation will be completed not
later than April 15, 1989.
I ft -4-1"- •. • • • •
The wells at the Forward landfill are screened at a depth to provide
acceptable samples and measurements throughout the year with the
exceptions of several wells. As seen in the monthly ground water
measurements taken by Kleinfelder and Associates, four wells, namely
M-2, 5, 7, and 11, were found to contain insufficient water to
adequately sample. Of these wells, MW -2, a damaged well, was
abandoned and MW -5 has been replaced with the deeper well, MW -
5A.
