VESENIS <br />Contingency Plan <br />Section 13 — <br />Press Relations <br />Effective Date <br />9/20/2021 <br />Supersedes <br />New <br />Page <br />13-1 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />During an emergency, especially a visible on involving local emergency response <br />agencies (Fire and Police Departments) and crowds of spectators, local news <br />media representatives will be sure to be in attendance. They will want to know <br />who, what, where, when, how, and why. The on-scene spokesperson for the <br />Branch should be the Regional Operations Manager, Regulatory Manager, or local <br />branch Operations Manager / Supervisor. <br />PROCEDURE: <br />Answer all questions openly and honestly if you know the answer. If you do not <br />know the answer, say so. Refer these matters to the Regional Operations <br />Manager, Regulatory Manager, or Director of Operations. Answer the question put <br />to you. Do not volunteer information and do not speculate about anything. There is <br />nothing wrong with admitting you do not know the answer to something, but do not <br />withhold anything that you do know. <br />Always remain positive. It is important to remain in control of emergency situations <br />and to act like you know what you are doing. After all — you do! <br />It is the responsibility of the local Emergency Planning Committees to share this <br />plan with the citizens of the community. Be prepared for loaded questions <br />concerning the implementation of the plan and feel free to refer them to the <br />Regional Operations Manager or Regulatory Manager for additional information.
