VESENIS
Contingency Plan
Section 13 —
Press Relations
Effective Date
9/20/2021
Supersedes
New
Page
13-1
BACKGROUND:
During an emergency, especially a visible on involving local emergency response
agencies (Fire and Police Departments) and crowds of spectators, local news
media representatives will be sure to be in attendance. They will want to know
who, what, where, when, how, and why. The on-scene spokesperson for the
Branch should be the Regional Operations Manager, Regulatory Manager, or local
branch Operations Manager / Supervisor.
PROCEDURE:
Answer all questions openly and honestly if you know the answer. If you do not
know the answer, say so. Refer these matters to the Regional Operations
Manager, Regulatory Manager, or Director of Operations. Answer the question put
to you. Do not volunteer information and do not speculate about anything. There is
nothing wrong with admitting you do not know the answer to something, but do not
withhold anything that you do know.
Always remain positive. It is important to remain in control of emergency situations
and to act like you know what you are doing. After all — you do!
It is the responsibility of the local Emergency Planning Committees to share this
plan with the citizens of the community. Be prepared for loaded questions
concerning the implementation of the plan and feel free to refer them to the
Regional Operations Manager or Regulatory Manager for additional information.
