Red Thread IIA History <br />In 1968, this product was UL Listed as "Nonmetallic <br />Underground Piping for Petroleum Products Only." Under the <br />UL test program, the pipe was totally immersed in the following <br />chemicals (all at 1008. <br />• Regular leaded gasoline, <br />• Premium unleaded gasoline, <br />• Premium leaded gasoline, <br />• No. 2 fuel oil, <br />• Benzene <br />• Toluene <br />• ASTM reference fuel C, <br />• ASTM reference fuel A, <br />• Distilled water, <br />• Nitric acid (5% by weight), <br />• Sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate solution, <br />• Sodium chloride solution (saturated), <br />• Dilute sulfuric acid (pH=3) <br />• Dilute sulfuric acid (20% by weight). <br />NOV Fiber Glass Systems recommended this pipe for <br />methanol/gasoline blends up to 5% methanol at temperatures <br />up to 75°F. The pipe was also recommended for all mixtures of <br />ethanol and gasoline including 100% ethanol. <br />In 1984, the Red Thread II system carried the same UL <br />listing as in 1968 and NOV Fiber Glass Systems recommended <br />the piping system for all ethanol and methanol blends up to 100% <br />at temperatures up to 75°F. <br />In 1990, NOV Fiber Glass Systems began manufacturing Red <br />Thread IIA.
