1. Introduction
C:\TRICH\Jobs\4515582 Leprino Tracy\Report\Leprino Tracy CalARP 040221.docx 1-3
• The occurrence of other events (e.g., fire or explosion) that have caused
structural damage
• Significant deterioration and/or damage mechanisms in equipment, piping,
structural members, foundations or anchorages
Based on the seismic hazard at the site (see Chapter 2), the current seismic hazard
determined using the 2016 CBC (ASCE 7-10) is essentially the same as the seismic
hazard used in the previous CalARP seismic assessment of the plant. In addition, no
occurrence of an earthquake or other event has been recorded that has caused
significant damage to equipment, piping, structural members, foundations or
anchorages.
A site walkdown was performed on September 23, 2020. Some system modifications
were noted during the walkdown of the facility. Since the last assessment, two new
equipment items have been added to the system. They include a new glycol chiller and
replacement of the evaporative cooler on the roof of the QLC Engine Room.
The CalARP earthquake assessment study contained herein is generally qualitative in
nature and consists of the four steps outlined above. Quantitative evaluations were
performed for some equipment items judged to be marginally restrained based on the
walkdown of the facility or for new equipment items that have been added to the system
since the last assessment. The judgments on seismic capacity are based on the
collection and documentation of the performance of equipment and piping in industrial
facilities during strong motion earthquakes as documented in Reference 2 and any
quantitative evaluations performed as part of this assessment.
A review of the equipment, vessels, and their associated piping holding State Regulated
Substances covered in the CalARP regulations is presented in Chapter 3.
1.2 Approach of the Seismic Assessment
In conformance with CalARP Program guidelines (Reference 2), the following five
general tasks were performed:
• Develop the seismic ground motion for the site.
• Screen seismic-induced secondary hazards for the site.
