CROSS-CONTAMINATION
Cross-contamination issues will be discussed with all body artists working at this facility. Some of the ways in which cross-
contamination can occur in the tattooing area are as follows:
• If one or more operators share the same equipment or materials.
• If used and clean instruments come into contact with one another.
• If clean instruments are placed on unclean surfaces.
• If strict operator hygiene is not observed.
• If contaminated dressings, spatulas, disposable gloves are not disposed of immediately and appropriately after use.
• If structural facilities, furnishings, and fittings of the premises are not adequately protected, or thoroughly cleaned between
clients.
• If objects belonging to the facility are made of fabric and come in contact with a client.
Operators should be aware of the potential for unprotected surfaces and equipment to become contaminated with blood and serum during
tattooing. Some examples of how this can occur are as follows:
• Adjusting overhead light fittings.
• Adjusting settings on power packs.
• Answering telephones.
• Touching ink bottles or ink trays.Touching numbing agents bottles or jars. Reaching for more tips.
• Touching curtains,drapes,or bin lids.
• Adjusting furniture and equipment. Clients, operators, and the community can be at risk of cross-contamination occurs.
• Opening drawers and/or cabinets.
The work area will be properly covered with a barrier film, and all bottles and equipment covered properly to protect from
contamination. If,during a procedure, the work must be stopped for any reason, the procedure site on the client will be covered
by gauze or cling wrap. The work area will be covered with a Disposable lap cloth to protect it from contamination.
SEP UP
1. Wash hands with soap and water, and don fresh gloves. Sanitize the tattoo area and all surfaces in which you will come into
contact.Everything that will be touched or could be touched should be sanitized.
2. Remove and dispose of gloves and wash hands up to the elbow with soap and water for a minimum of 15 seconds.
3. Place a barrier on the counter or work surface.
