Methods of Compliance <br /> To help prevent exposure, we will follow"Universal Precautions". That is, the victim's blood and other bodily fluids will be <br /> treated as if known to be infectious for BBPs. <br /> Materials and equipment detailed below may be kept in a first aid kit if that kit will be available to the <br /> employee at sites where he/she is expected to render first aid. <br /> Engineering and work practice controls will be used to minimize the risk of employee exposure, and they are: <br /> o Employees will wash their hands and other potentially contaminated skin with antiseptic soap and water as soon as <br /> possible after removal of PPE. <br /> o Employees will flush mucous membranes with water as soon as possible after contact with potentially infectious <br /> materials. <br /> o If hand washing facilities are or may not be available, employees will be given an antiseptic hand cleanser to use <br /> immediately, and will wash their hands and other potentially contaminated skin with antiseptic soap and water as <br /> o Employees will try and minimize splashing, spraying, or spattering of blood or body fluids. <br /> Personal protective equipment will be provided and employees are expected to have this equipment with them on any <br /> job site at which they are expected to render first aid. If an employee refuses to wear PPE, the manager will investigate <br /> and document the circumstances and any action taken. <br /> Employees will be given and instructed on the proper use, maintenance and disposal of the following PPE: <br /> o Disposable gloves (non-latex gloves are preferred) <br /> o Eye protection (goggles with adjustable straps or face shields) <br /> o Mouth guard for mouth-to-mouth resuscitation <br /> o Disposable mask <br /> If required to clean a surface that has been potentially contaminated with BBPs, the employee will wear gloves and will <br /> clean the area with disinfectant. Gloves and cleaning items will be discarded as noted below. <br /> Any sharp object that has been contaminated (e.g., broken glass, piece of metal)will be picked up with a brush/dust pan <br /> rather than the hands and discarded as noted below. <br /> Items contaminated with a victims blood or other body fluids will be placed in a closable and puncture/leak resistant <br /> biohazard trash bag labeled with the below red/red-orange symbol: <br /> 010HAZARD <br /> o The bag will be disposed of at or by[check with local resources on how to dispose of these bags—a local <br /> clinic, hospital or your trash local clinic, hospital or your trash pick-up company should be able to advise you — <br /> and note it here]: <br />
