Project No. 10-1768 AdvancedGeo
An Employee-Owned Company
5.3.1. Transfer Lines Not In-Service
Lines that are not in service for an extended period of time are capped or blank-flanged
and marked as to their origin.
5.3.2. Standby Transfer Lines
Lines that are on standby for an extended period of time are capped or blank-flanged and
marked as to their origin.
5.3.3. Pipe Supports
All pipe supports are designed to minimize abrasion and corrosion and to allow for
expansion and contraction. Pipe supports are visually inspected during the monthly
inspection of the Facility.
5.3.4. Aboveground Piping and Valves
All aboveground piping and valves are examined monthly to assess their condition.
Inspection includes aboveground valves, piping, appurtenances, expansion joints, valve
glands and bodies, catch pans, pipeline supports, locking of valves, and metal surfaces.
Waste oil is pumped into an AST from drain pans by employees and monitored during
AST filling. Observations are noted on the monthly inspection checklist provided in
this Plan.
5.3.5. Underground Piping
Underground piping is utilized near the tank farm and dispenser islands. Piping was
installed prior to August 16, 2002, within concrete pipe supports. Portions of the
underground piping is exposed and is carefully inspected for deterioration on a daily and
monthly basis. If corrosion is detected, additional examination and corrective action will
be performed.
6.0. FACILITY DISCHARGE RESPONSE
This section describes the response and cleanup procedures in the event of an oil
discharge. The uncontrolled discharge of oil to groundwater, surface water, or soil is
prohibited by state and possibly federal laws. Immediate action must be taken to control,
contain, and recover discharged product.
For the purpose of establishing appropriate response procedures, this Plan classifies
discharges as either "minor" or "major," depending on the volume and characteristics of
the material released.
