<br /> <br /> Forward Compost Facility Stormwater Improvements 02300 7 EARTHWORK <br />extent of the various materials to be excavated in order to accomplish the Work. <br /> <br /> <br />PART 3 EXECUTION <br /> <br />3.1 PROTECTION OF EXPOSED SURFACES <br /> <br /> A. During seasonal shutdowns and during other periods of prolonged exposure (more <br />than 3 days) of excavated or filled areas, or stockpiles, the EARTHWORK <br />CONTRACTOR shall provide labor, materials and equipment, as required by the <br />OWNER, to maintain and protect exposed surfaces of cut-and-fill slopes against <br />wind and water erosion and/or damage. Prior to the application of protective <br />erosion control measures, the exposed surfaces shall be sloped to drain, and be <br />compacted with a smooth drum roller, to eliminate ruts and ridges formed by <br />construction equipment. Methods used to protect exposed surfaces must be <br />approved by the QA/QC CONSULTANT; however, the EARTHWORK <br />CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for the effectiveness of the protective <br />method. In addition, the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall be responsible <br />for providing all necessary earthwork to protect all exposed geosynthetic materials <br />installed by the GEOSYNTHETCS CONTRACTOR. <br /> <br />3.2 EARTHWORK - GENERAL <br /> <br /> A. Required lines, levels, contours and datum shall be identified by the <br />EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR before the start of earthwork operations. <br /> <br /> B. Earthwork shall conform to lines, grades, and minimum thicknesses and slopes <br />indicated on the Construction Drawings and as specified in this section. <br /> <br /> C. Drainage ditches shall be constructed and maintained to provide drainage during <br />construction as directed by the OWNER. <br /> <br /> D. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR will be responsible for providing siltation <br />control and management during construction, in general accordance with the site’s <br />approved Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan. <br /> <br /> E. Care shall be taken during earthwork operations to avoid damaging synthetic <br />components of the landfill including HDPE Pipe, Geotextile, Geomembrane, and <br />Geosynthetic Clay Liner. Damage caused by the EARTHWORK <br />CONTRACTOR shall be repaired at the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's <br />expense in accordance with the applicable Specification requirements.
