<br /> <br /> Forward Compost Facility Stormwater Improvements 02300 8 EARTHWORK <br /> <br />3.3 BORROW AREA OPERATION <br /> <br /> A. All borrow areas shall be kept neat and orderly. Work areas in a systematic <br />manner. Keep borrow areas graded to drain and take all necessary precautions to <br />minimize erosion. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall review the <br />excavation plan with the QA/QC CONSULTANT prior to any excavation from <br />borrow areas. Leave all surplus material in the borrow area. Maintain access <br />roads as necessary at EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's expense. Excavation at <br />the borrow pits shall be limited as shown on the Construction Drawings and shall <br />be excavated to permit the completed area to slope to drain to the surrounding <br />area after completion of all Work. <br /> <br /> B. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall make all reasonable efforts to <br />determine the type of soil being excavated at all times. Equipment operators or <br />the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's representative directing excavation shall <br />have sufficient knowledge and understanding of soil classifications to determine <br />general soil type. <br /> <br /> C. If vegetative material or topsoil is encountered in the borrow area, it shall be <br />removed and stockpiled at an onsite location, as directed by the OWNER. <br /> <br />3.4 EXCAVATION <br /> <br /> A. Perform all excavation of every description, regardless of the type, nature, or <br />condition of material encountered, as specified, shown, or required to accomplish <br />the construction. Transport excavated material to where it will be placed or to the <br />designated stockpile area. Any refuse excavated shall be placed in active landfill <br />areas, as directed by the OWNER. <br /> <br /> B. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall make all reasonable efforts to <br />determine the type of soil being excavated at all times. Equipment operators or <br />the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's representative directing excavation shall <br />have sufficient knowledge and understanding of soil classifications to determine <br />general soil type. <br /> <br /> E. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall stockpile excavated material in <br />accordance with Section 3.6 of this Specification and shall direct equipment <br />operators to the appropriate stockpile area depending on the soil classification of <br />the majority of material that makes up the excavation equipment's payload. <br /> <br /> F. Excavation to be carried out for the convenience of the EARTHWORK <br />CONTRACTOR shall conform to the limits approved by the DESIGN <br />ENGINEER, QA/QC CONSULTANT, and OWNER and shall be at no additional <br />expense to the OWNER. <br /> <br /> G. Excavated material shall be placed a sufficient distance from the edge of <br />excavations to prevent cave-ins or bank slides. <br />
