Forward Compost Facility Stormwater Improvements 02300 13 EARTHWORK
2. GDM Acceptance: Final acceptance of the GDM will be based on all tests
made on completed Work and on leak location testing and repair. Testing
for final acceptance shall be performed by the QA/QC CONSULTANT in
accordance with these Specifications and the CQA Manual.

C. Protection:

1. Do not route construction traffic on top of GDM once material has been
placed.
2. Constructed GDM shall be maintained to meet the requirements of this
Specification until final completion and acceptance of the Work. This shall
include all measures to prevent erosion. During seasonal or other extended
shutdowns, all exposed surfaces shall be protected as detailed in Article 3.1
of this Section. In addition, the GDM shall be protected from any
contamination that reduces the hydraulic conductivity. Any contaminated
materials shall be removed and replaced at no cost to the OWNER.

3.10 GEOTEXTILE

A. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall place geotextile around coarse gravel
in accordance with Section 02771, GEOTEXTILES, of these Specifications.

B. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall coordinate with GEOSYNTHETICS
CONTRACTOR to construct the gravel logs.

3.11 GENERAL EARTHFILL

A. Place material in minimum 8-inch lifts and compact each lift to minimum 93
percent relative compaction (ASTM D1557) and moisture content within 3
percent of optimum.

B. Do not attempt to compact general earthfill that contains excessive moisture.
Aerate material by blading, discing, harrowing, or other methods, to hasten drying
process.

C. Use hand-held compaction equipment, if necessary, when compacting general
earthfill around pipes or in anchor trenches.

3.12 ANCHOR TRENCH

A. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall excavate the anchor trench as shown
on the Construction Drawings. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall
protect the trench from desiccation, sloughing, and flooding.

B. All corners of anchor trench over which geosynthetic materials will be placed
shall be rounded.

C. Excavated material shall be placed at a sufficient distance from the edge of
