Forward Compost Facility Stormwater Improvements 02300 14 EARTHWORK
excavations to prevent cave-ins or bank slides.

D. Backfill anchor trench when directed by GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR.
Anchor trench shall be backfilled with general earthfill as shown on the
Construction Drawings or directed by the DESIGN ENGINEER or QA/QC
CONSULTANT. General earthfill used as anchor trench backfill shall be
compacted to 90 percent relative compaction and within 3 percent of optimum per
ASTM D1557.

3.13 BERMS

A. Construct berms of general earthfill as shown on the Construction Drawings.
Place material in lifts not exceeding 1-foot depth (after compaction) and compact
each lift to approximately 90 percent relative compaction (ASTM D1557).

B. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall repair or replace any geosynthetic
materials damaged during placement and compaction of the berms, at the
EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's sole expense.

C. During all compacting operations, maintain optimum practicable moisture content
required for compaction purposes in each lift of fill. Maintain uniform moisture
content throughout the lift. Insofar as practicable, add water to the material at the
site of excavation. Supplement, if required, by sprinkling the general earthfill. At
the time of compaction, the water content of the material shall be at the optimum
moisture content, ±3 percentage points per ASTM D1557.

D. Do not attempt to compact general earthfill material that contains excessive
moisture. Aerate material by blading, discing, harrowing, or other methods, to
hasten the drying process.

3.14 DITCHES AND TRENCHES

A. Place general earthfill, as necessary, and excavate ditches and trenches to achieve
grade and dimensions shown on the Construction Drawings. Place material in
lifts not exceeding 1-foot depth (after compaction) and compact each lift to
approximately 90 percent relative compaction (ASTM D1557) within 3 percent of
optimum moisture content.

B. Excavate, as necessary, to repair any existing drainage structure damaged during
construction.

C. Minimum width of trenches shall be 12-inches greater than outside diameter or
width of pipe. Maximum trench width is unlimited, unless otherwise shown or
specified, or unless width will cause damage to existing facilities, adjacent
property, or completed work.

D. Pipe bedding grooves shall be semi circular, trapezoidal, or 90 degree V. The
grooves shall be excavated or plowed into the trench bottom. Forming groove by
