Any materials that are not certified by the Manufacturer in accordance with this section, or that has a hydraulic conductivity greater than that specified in this Section shall be rejected and replaced, at no additional cost to the OWNER. <br />3.3 SURFACE PREPARATION <br /> A. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for preparing the supporting (subgrade) soil. <br /> B. The subgrade shall be prepared in accordance with Section 02300, EARTHWORK. <br /> C. The subgrade surface shall be proof-rolled to identify soft zones, and eliminate irregularities, ruts, and abrupt changes in grade. Any unacceptable areas shall be repaired by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR, at no additional cost to the OWNER. <br />3.4 ANCHORAGE SYSTEM <br /> A. The anchor trench shall be excavated by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR prior to geosynthetic clay liner placement, to the lines and grades shown on the drawings. <br /> B. No loose soil shall be allowed in the anchor trench beneath the geosynthetics. <br /> C. The geosynthetic clay liner shall be anchored with compacted general earthfill, as identified on the drawings. <br /> D. Care shall be taken when backfilling the trenches to prevent any damage to the geosynthetic clay liner. <br />3.5 HANDLING AND PLACEMENT <br /> A. The GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR shall handle all geosynthetic clay liners in such a manner to prevent any damage. <br />B. Geosynthetic clay liners shall be cut using a utility blade in a manner approved by the QA/QC CONSULTANT. Any damage to any underlying liner system components during cutting will be repaired by the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR, at no cost to the Owner. <br /> C. During placement, care shall be taken not to entrap stones or moisture under the geosynthetic clay liner. Care shall be taken not to walk on or drag equipment across the exposed geosynthetic clay liner. <br /> D. Any geosynthetic clay liner damaged by stones or other foreign objects, or by installation activities, shall be replaced by the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR at no additional cost to the OWNER.
