Prior to packaging the finished product, the manufacturer shall inspect each roll, over the entire surface area, for the presence of sewing needles. All needles shall be removed or the rolls shall be rejected. 4. The bentonite will be adhered to the backing material in a manner that prevents it from being dislodged when transported, handled, and installed in a manner prescribed by the manufacturer. The water content of the bentonite shall not be greater than either12 percent, by weight. <br /> <br />PART 3 EXECUTION <br />3.1 FAMILIARIZATION <br /> A. Prior to implementing any of the work described in this Section, the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR shall become thoroughly familiar with the site, the site conditions, and the portions of the work falling within this Section. <br /> B. Inspection: 1. Prior to implementing any of the work of this Section, the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR shall carefully inspect the installed work of all other Sections and verify that all such work is complete to the point where the installation of this Section may properly commence without adverse impact. 2. If the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR has any concern regarding the installed work of other Sections, he should immediately notify the QA/QC CONSULTANT prior to start of work of the Section. Installation of the geosynthetic clay liner will be construed as GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR'S acceptance of the related work of all other Sections, including the subgrade. <br />3.2 ACCEPTANCE TESTING <br /> A. Upon delivery to the site, samples of the geosynthetic clay liner shall be removed by the QA/QC CONSULTANT and tested to ensure conformance to these Specifications. Only materials passing the acceptance tests shall be installed. <br /> B. Samples shall be selected by the QA/QC CONSULTANT in accordance with the procedure outlined in the CQA Manual. <br /> C. Samples shall be taken at the rate of one sample per lot or one per 100,000 sq. ft (9,300 sq. m), whichever is greater and tested for bentonite mass per unit area, peel strength and hydraulic conductivity. <br /> D. The QA/QC CONSULTANT will increase the frequency of sampling in the event that test results are negative. This additional testing shall be performed at the expense of the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR.
