<br /> <br /> <br />CROPPING METHODOLOGIES <br /> <br />Following the 2022 cannery waste land application season, a winter wheat crop was planted <br />using agricultural seed planting equipment. The seed was applied at a rate of 125 lbs/acre. The <br />crop was not irrigated and relied on precipitation for growth. The crop was cut and baled in <br />May 2023 and produced bales of wheat weighing approximately 3 tons/acre. <br /> <br />Winter wheat is anticipated to uptake approximately 150 to 200 lbs/acre of available nitrogen. <br />The total available nitrogen applied to the soils in 2022 was approximately 20 lbs/acre. <br />Therefore, the winter wheat crop is expected to remove 100 percent of the total applied <br />nitrogen that was available for crop uptake. <br /> <br />CONCLUSIONS <br /> <br />Forward has complied with the requirements of the WDRs, including the BMPs. In addition, <br />Forward monitors nitrogen loads on a weekly basis throughout the cannery waste land <br />application season and plants a crop following cannery waste application to uptake nitrogen. <br /> <br />The total amount of nitrogen applied during the 2022 to 2023 cannery waste season was <br />approximately 20 lbs/acre. This value is less than the 300 lb/acre allowed in the site’s WDRs. In <br />addition, a winter wheat crop was planted.
