• Waste was spread thinly, no more than three inches deep (to ensure drying within five <br />days), <br />• Waste was turned at least twice daily, <br />• Cannery waste was incorporated within 24 hours or receipt, <br />• And the cannery waste operation was conducted in a manner that prevents odor and <br />vermin harborage. Observations requiring corrective action as well as corrective action <br />taken were documented as necessary. <br /> <br />Daily records are included in Appendix A. <br /> <br />DATA COLLECTION <br /> <br />CANNERY WASTE <br /> <br />Forward monitors weekly nitrogen loading during the cannery waste application season to <br />assess when accepted levels of nitrogen may be exceeded. If Forward anticipates that nitrogen <br />loading levels in the land application area may be exceeded, alternate disposal locations <br />allowed in the WDRs will be used. This includes discharge of cannery rinse water to the Class II <br />surface impoundments. <br /> <br />The total daily wet weight from each cannery waste source is recorded. Weekly composite <br />samples of cannery waste residual material and water are collected from each supplier and <br />submitted to the lab for testing of BOD, pH, TDS, Ammonia Nitrogen, and Total Nitrogen. <br />Cannery waste muds are not land-applied and are, therefore, not sampled. The analytical test <br />data is attached in Appendix B. <br /> <br />As shown on Table 1, the total mud received during the 2022 cannery season was 1,140 tons. <br />The mud was placed on a drying bed on the landfill and then transferred to an active waste <br />management unit. Because cannery waste mud was not land-applied, it is not included in the <br />nitrogen loading calculations. <br /> <br />The total nitrogen loading from the cannery waste residuals and water in 2022 was <br />approximately 20 lbs/acre, as detailed on Table 1. This value is less than the limitation in the <br />site’s WDR R5-2014-006 of 300 lbs/acre. <br /> <br /> <br />SOIL SAMPLES <br /> <br />The cannery waste land application area is divided into several zones as shown on Figure 1. <br />Forward collected representative soil samples prior to and following the 2022 cannery waste <br />land application period. Samples were analyzed for biological oxygen demand, total dissolved <br />solids, and total nitrogen. The total nitrogen in the soil samples is presented on Table 2. <br />Analytical results are provided in Appendix B <br />
