where this settlement may decr ase the effectiveness of the pas ive soil
vapor extraction trench. The overall objective of this project is to
prevent methane from migrating offsite. To achieve this objective, the
soil above the trench will be compacted to minimize migration of methane
through this soil so that methane will migrate towards the passive soil
vapor extraction trench. As soil compaction increases, pore space
decreases. As pore space decreases, methane migration decreases as well as
the potential for settlement decreases. Hence, we feel that vehicular
traffic over the trench will not likely cause a decrease the effectiveness
of the passive soil vapor extraction trench. Since you have this concern,
the trench location will be marked as you suggested with a rope or another
method (as approved by you) to prevent any type of traffic over the trench
after its installation. We recognize that the vent pipes will need to be
protected from vehicles and we plan to install either bollards around each
vent pipe.
5.
