Page Number Three
the test holes, a fine sand soil was encountered. The surface
1 to 3 feet of soil was silty and somewhat organic in character
in certain locations. In Test Hole Number 0-2, at a depth of 6
feet, a 1-foot layer of organic sand was encountered. The sur-
face I to 2 feet of sand was fairly loose. The underlying
materials were reasonably compact. The ground water table was
located at depths ranging from 5 to 6 feet at the time the test
holes were drilled.
The soil samples retained were sent to the Soil Mechanics
Laboratory of Reinard W. Brandley, Sacramento, California, for
0 testing. Unit dry weight and natural moisture content of each
soil sample were obtained, and these data are indicated
on the Soil Profile Sheet.
III DESIGN STUDIES AND RECOMMENDATIONS
It is proposed to construct a swimming pool for the St.
Francis Yacht Club on Tinsley island, San Joaquin County, California.
When the field exploration at this site was conducted, two sites
were under consideration. As a result, 2 test holes were drilled
at each proposed site. The proposed structure will be 25 feet x
50 feet, with depths ranging from 3 to 8 feet. The top of the
pool will be located at 3 to 4 inches above existing ground surface.
The surface soils, to depths ranging from 2 to 3 feet, at
this site were fairly loose; were organic in certain locations; and
should be by-passed with all foundations. The minimum depth of
pool will be 3 feet and, as a result, these surface materials will
be removed by the excavation of the pool.
