This team will evaluate the nature
of the threat and actions, if any, required.

Acts or Threats by an Employee:

The County does not allow or condone violence, whether verbal or action, in the
workplace. Employees are prohibited from making verbal or written threats or
engaging in behavior that is intimidating, threatening, harassing, coercive, abusive, or
assaultive directed at other employees, County contractors, County guests, or the
public. This policy is in effect on and off County property.

Any employee who believes that they have been threatened, verbally, or by another
employee’s actions, should report this threat immediately. Threats of violence should
be reported to your supervisor, or if that is not possible, to the Director of Human
Resources. Should the employee not be able to do any of the above, and the threat of
violence appears imminent, they should use 911 to contact the local law enforcement.
When Public Works is made aware of an incident of prohibited behavior it will fully
investigate the matter in conjunction with the Director of Human Resources. All
incidents of violence or threats made by County employees are reported to the Director
of Human Resources within 24 hours of the incident. Reports may be made via fax,
email, or the Workplace Violence Incident Report Form (on the HR website).

At the discretion of the Department or Director of Human Resources, the San Joaquin
Threat Assessment Team may be called upon. Notification shall be made as soon as is practicable.
Retaliation, or the threat of retaliation, against a person who reports such an incident is
unlawful and shall not be tolerated.

The proper authorities shall investigate all reports of violence, threats of violence, or
intimidation and report on such investigation to County Risk Management. Such
reports shall be treated with confidentiality to the greatest extent practicable given the
circumstances. The identity of the reporting party shall be kept confidential unless
otherwise required to remediate a dangerous situation.
