San Joaquin County <br />Department of Public Works <br />County of San Joaquin Dept of Public Works IIPP Rev 2020-01-31.docx P a g e | 43 <br />Behavioral Assessment Unit in its analysis of past incidents of workplace <br />violence: <br />o Direct or veiled threats of harm <br />o Intimidating, belligerent, harassing, bullying or other inappropriate <br />and aggressive behavior <br />o Numerous conflicts with supervisors and other employees <br />o Bringing, brandishing a weapon in the workplace, making <br />inappropriate references to guns, fascination with weapons <br />o Fascination with incidents of workplace violence, statements <br />indicating approval of the use of violence to resolve problems, <br />statements indicating identification with perpetrators of workplace <br />homicides <br />o Statements indicating desperation over family, financial, other <br />personal problems, to the point of contemplating suicide <br />o Drug/alcohol abuse <br />o Extreme changes in behavior <br /> <br />1.5.3 REPORTING: <br />Reporting incidents of workplace violence or potential violence is a vital element of the <br />department’s policy. All threats of violence must be taken seriously. Employees are <br />encouraged to report the following types of incidents immediately to management. Any <br />incident in which security and/or law enforcement is called to assist. Any incident in <br />which the perpetrator becomes verbally abusive or physically threatening and refuses to <br />leave the premises. <br /> <br />All reported incidents of workplace violence are to be recorded to a WORKPLACE <br />VIOLENCE INCIDENT REPORT FORM by the Supervisor or Manager. A complaint <br />triggers a report; a report triggers an investigation; the purpose of the <br />investigation is to determine if there has been a violation of policy. The <br />department is responsible for taking appropriate actions based on the findings of <br />the investigation. The Director of Public Works, or their designee, is to receive a <br />copy of the report, findings and corrective actions. The report is to be provided to <br />Risk Management within 24 hours of the complaint. (An addendum may be sent <br />after the investigation, findings and recommended corrective actions are <br />complete. In some cases it may be necessary to send a final addendum when <br />corrective actions are complete). <br /> <br />1.5.4 ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES <br /> An employee who has been the victim of a threat or assault will immediately <br />report the situation to any manager or supervisor.
