San Joaquin County <br />Department of Public Works <br />County of San Joaquin Dept of Public Works IIPP Rev 2020-01-31.docx P a g e | 57 <br /> <br />2.6.4 Symptoms and Treatment of Heat Stroke <br /> <br />Symptoms <br />• Throbbing headache <br />• Dizziness and light- <br />headedness <br />• Lack of sweating <br />despite the heat <br />• Red, hot, and dry skin <br />• Muscle weakness or <br />cramps <br />• Nausea and vomiting <br />• Rapid heartbeat, <br />which may be either <br />strong or weak <br />• Rapid, shallow <br />breathing <br />• Behavioral changes <br />such as confusion, <br />disorientation, or <br />staggering <br />• Seizures <br />• Unconsciousness <br /> <br />Treatment <br />• Call the supervisor <br />immediately <br />• Get the person <br />identified into shaded <br />area <br /> Spray the person with <br />cool water <br /> Fan air across the <br />person to increase <br />cooling <br /> Let the person drink <br />cool water if they are <br />able to <br /> If the person vomits, <br />work to keep their <br />airway open <br /> Remove any layers of <br />clothing if possible <br />
